My husband and I are on a tight budget. We want to go somewhere tropical, romantic and unique?

Any suggestions on a location that feels expensive but is budget friendly?

We had tried looking into Carrib. side of mexico and at the Virgin Islands...that's the ';feel'; we want..

Any less expensive locations? My husband and I are on a tight budget. We want to go somewhere tropical, romantic and unique?
Holbox, Quintana Roo!

Its a small island (2 hours from Cancun) its exotic, its cheap, its romantic! Like just out of a movie! My husband and I are on a tight budget. We want to go somewhere tropical, romantic and unique?
Throughout the Caribbean, the areas that tend to be a bit more ';budget friendly'; are Riviera Maya/Cancun, Punta Cana Dominican Republic, and at times Jamaica. All of these areas have all-inclusive options. With the all-inclusive your airfare, transfers, meals, alcoholic/nonalcoholic, and some nonmotorized watersports are included in the rate, as well as some tips! So, you don't have a whole lot more to worry about spending money on - just an excursion or two and shopping. Check out the Palace resorts - Cancun Palace, Moon Palace, and Aventura Spa Palace. Also look into the Grand Oasis, Iberostar Tucan and Grand Xcaret. In Punta Cana, the Occidental and Iberostar properties are good mid range options as well. Another option may be a cruise. Carnival has a reasonable rate on a sailing out of Tampa that does an exotic Western Caribbean itinerary going down to Belize. There are tons of options for sailings and with the cruise your meals and noncarbonized/nonalcoholic beverages are included in the rate. You also get to visit a couple of different locations. Hope this helps.
Well I guess I would have to know your defintion of a tight budget is...If I was on a tight budget i would probably try Florida and avoid the Carib.

In general, i have always felt that if your going to take a vacation, do it right. Even if on a budget. If you skimp everywhere you go, you are going to not end up having a romantic time, and wish you had stayed home. That doesnt mean you have to spend like a rock star, it just means if money is very tight you may be better off waiting until you can afford to kick in a little extra and really enjoy yourself.

Bt to answer your question, Puerto Rico is one of the more affordable Islands. You can probably take a decent 5 day trip for 2, for about 1500$ including airfare and some expenses along the way. Possibly Jamaica as well, and maybe Cancun. Most other caribean hot spots will drain your wallet unless you wanna stay in a roach motel.
Try Apple Vacations, FunJet, or Worryfree Vacations. They have different specials every week to Mexico. This will give you a good idea of what you could expect to spend. From there, you can decide if this vacation is within your budget. My husband and I have been several time to Cancun and Riviera Maya, 5 or 6 days, all inclusive - somewhere pretty nice, for around $2000. It can be done if you plan it right. Generally speaking, Cancun is more affordable than other locations.
Antigua is probably the most romantic Caribbean island. Do a Google search and look up some hotels. Try tripadvisor.com

But i think you'd love Antigua. Its is very quiet. Its where all the celebs go to escape US and UK media (eg. John Lennon, Whitney Huston, Maria Carie, Oprah, Vivica A. Foxx, Queen Latifah) have all been here on several occasions.
Cozumel might also be a less-expensive alternative. You might also check out the islands off Belize, or Roatan Island in Guatemala.

To save some money, you could try renting an apt/condo - HomeAway.com has lots of them listed. That way you could save on meals.

You might also consider a cruise. Depending on the season and cruise line, this can be a pretty inexpensive way to vacation.
We got a great deal to jamaica and the Dominican on this website. We like the all inclusives. We stayed in jamaica for 1300 for the 2 of us and that included air hotel food and drinks cuba is even cheaper but make sure and read the reviews of the hotels before you decide on a hotel. You can do all tht on this site.

If you want the feel of the virgin islands, go to Culebra or

Vieques. They're part of the same chain, but cheaper and less comercialized.
