Hey I know my husband owes for taxes last year due to him working for himself?

so my question is I worked for a separate company last year and should received money back. Can I file separately and still receive my refund or will it be consider jointly still and they will take mine towards his?

Hope this makes sense?

Thank you!Hey I know my husband owes for taxes last year due to him working for himself?
If you file separately, or file jointly with an injured spouse form, you won't be responsible for what he owes unless you filed a joint return with him last year when he owed the tax - if you did, then you're stuck with it.Hey I know my husband owes for taxes last year due to him working for himself?
Unless you are planning a divorce it makes more sense to file jointly to take the credits. Because a tax preparation is a deductible expense, you may wish to consider a tax specialist that works with the self employed. Hopefully he's kept all receipts for work related expenses to get the most tax shelters. Once you have the professional support from a tax specialist this year you should be able to use the guidelines for future year tax filing on your own. You can figure out both seperate and jointly if you'd like but the joint filing will probably be to your advantage.
You can file separate, depending on your situation it could or could not help you. In certain states, like Ohio, it is beneficial to compare Married filing separate and married filing joint. If your wages are close together it may work, if it is more like 65/35 split between spouses it generally is not worth it because of the different tax brackets. Your husband's social security tax is reported on Schedule SE or line 57 on the 1040. My recommedation is to handle the situation internally and ask for the money.
It's usually best to combine incomes and file jointly, but unfortunately, your withholding will be applied to what he owes. Pay 'em now or pay 'em more later. Taxes...Grrrr

Is your husband paying quarterly? I have found this the best way when self-employed. It's too hard to pay one lump sum, for me anyway.
you both may be responsible for the taxes owed.
