my fiance and i will be getting married in february of next year. In march he will be leaving for the merchant marines for about 8 months. eversince we laid eyes on eachother we were inseparable. there hasnt been a day that we didnt see eachother. after couple months of dating we got our own place and we've been living together for about a year. now, i only have 4 months to be with him and he'll be gone for so long. are there anyone out there whos married to a merchant mariner? i heard they cant even tell you where exactly there are on the sea..how often can i talk to him when he leaves? im sure its going to be hard..how did you guys get through with it?My soon to be husband is in the merchant marines?

When my guy (Army) went to Iraq, usually we talk on the computer and every once in awhile he could call me. It's tough but hang in there
The Military is tough when it comes to deployments. Families suffer a lot. When I married my husband we were together for 6 months before he left to Korea, then he was gone for 7 months came back for 14 days and left again for 5 more months, came back they moved us then spent 2 months together and was sent to a school he was gone for 4 months came back for a month, left for 3 months in the field, came back again and they moved us again, we spent about 4 years together with on and off field trips and now he is gone to Iraq. That's the Army, no matter what branch of service they are in. You might be able to talk some times and use the internet, but mostly you might have to write eachother. Once they leave it takes a while before you actually get into a communication routine because they need to settle and things like that so it might be around a month before you guys know what is going on. But regardless of how long it will take you just have to get used to the idea that he will be gone and you will spend a lot of lonely nights. Hang in there!!
