Seriously, You can not go wrong with a ';Benchmade'; or ';Gerber.'; These two companies made some of the best knives around in my opinion. If your hubby is a DIYer, look into a Gerber Multi Tool and if he likes a nice folder for working, looking into their knives. I carry both a Gerber folder and Multi Tool. Now if he likes tactical cool gear, check out Benchmade. A lot of Law Enforcement as well as Military will carry a Benchmade. You can typically find either one at your local gun dealer or sporting goods store.

Hangfire mentioned two great companies, but you should also check out Kershaw, in my house its only Benchmade or Kershaw. Good luck I know I have some trouble when it comes to picking out a new knife, but any choice from these two companies will serve you well.
I don't know about the warranty, but Swiss Army Knives always come with extra blades which perform other functions, i.e. screwdriver, can opener, corkscrew, even scissors. This is a really handy knife and I recommend it.

I own Kershaw, Gerber, Benchmade and Boker all are very good knives.
My daily carry is a Kershaw Chive Plain Edge (my dress knife). It is a small blade that I have carried for years. My second pocket knife is a Kershaw Scallion Serrated Edge which I carry on weekends, very good for cutting rope or boxes. My primary tactical is a Benchmade/Emmerson CQC-7 Folder which I carry in the field or when going to the great outdoors. I have a Boker neck chain Knife which I carry when a viewable knife is not apropriate.
If what you are looking for is a good all around pocket knife then the Kershaw Scallion would be my choice as the basic knife for general use.
Can be purchased at either K-Mart or Walmart in most areas under $50, and on the Web for about $38.00
